The main goal of Torrent Stream project is to provide multifunctional technological solution that will lead mechanism for publishing, sharing and dissemination of audio-visual information on the Internet to a new quality level.

Torrent Stream is a media platform of a new generation in the form of distributed/decentralized multimedia data transfer network with the functions of autonomous self regulation and social component. As part of this Project, based on Torrent Stream media platform, we have developed and implemented «Torrent Stream System»

Torrent Stream System is an integrated automated system that gives participants all necessary tools to build effective marketing models, and which at the software level provides an interaction, accounting and observance of interests of authors/licensors of video/audio content, owners of Internet services and content providers; network providers; software developers and manufacturers of household equipment; advertisers and media agencies; and the most important – internet users, who want to become full participants in truly democratic, mass, free and legal sharing/distribution of audio-visual information.

The biggest "inconvenience" for users would be watching ad-spots before start of video playback instead of watching a black screen that appears during pre-buffering.

Duration of the ad-spot before start of video playback will depend on duration of the content being viewed by the user and will not exceed 5 minutes.

Attention! There will be NO intentional interruption of watching video or listening to audio on advertising!
There will be NO imposing of advertising over video too! Even logos will be absent.
There will be NOTHING that could somehow prevent watching or listening!

Thanks to control of ad-spots Torrent Stream will provide quality control of all advertising materials.

Result: A few minutes spent on ad-spots before playing a full-length movie instead of a long waiting for its dowload can create totally different conditions in area of media industry development and free access and video exchange and audio information, as well as concerning quality parameters of Internet services, raising them to a higher level.

The basic core of Torrent Stream System is a specialized software Torrent Stream Engine (TS Engine), developed as a client application software for Windows, Mac, Linux/Ubuntu, Android, Apple iOS, etc. (Prior to release 1.0.6, only version for Windows will be available for installation).

One of the key features of TS Engine is a function of intellectual autonomous managing multimedia data streams, with the possibility of combining packages/pieces of data, received from different sources and by different network protocols (including bittorent), on a client (on a user's device), aimed to create a unified continual stream in order to organize high-quality online broadcasting for user's Internet-channel.

This technology is primarily intended for the organization of high-quality services AVoD (audio and video on demand), IPTV / InternetTV, as well as any other Internet services with the function of Live Stream.

TS Engine uses technology based on P2P (peer-to-peer), based on the BitTorrent protocol, and is fully compatible with all products and services supporting the specified network protocol.

The key features of TS Engine are:

• Cross-platform and easy integration with all existing web services and desktop software products.
• Providing possibility of decentralized or partially decentralized storage and delivery of multimedia data.
• Encryption of data and their transmission channels.
• Possibility of online playback of audio and video content through torrent files, magnet-links, tstream-files and IDTS (content identifier in Torrent Stream System), without any need to wait for content download.
• Supports BitTorrent protocol of any content, downloading or playing online, regardless of the technology and the network protocol, used by the primary source of content delivery.
  For example, the possibility of P2P streaming will be available not only for the content, published through BitTorrent networks, but also for any other content, which is viewed on popular video hostings or downloaded from file storages (for example, such as YouTube, Vimeo, RuTube, rapidshare, etc.).
  This function can be implemented on both the user side and the service itself, which will provide the user a maximum download speed by obtaining packages/pieces of data from the closest network nodes.
• Possibility of combining streams from different sources – simultaneous use of multiple sources of content delivery and combining them into a single pool in order to create a high-speed loading stream.
  For example: if the content is distributed from multiple network addresses via http protocol and through P2P network, via BitTorrent protocol, then using TS Engine function you can specify the recipient multiply sources (server №1 + server №2 + server №3 + torrent + ...) and the client's software will independently request and receive pieces from the most effective for it.
• Possibility of substitution of P2P traffic on HTTP/HTTPS, rapidly. (i.e., the change of protocols and data transmission will be carried out immediately, upon request). This function will allow to receive data via BitTorrent protocol and transfer via HTTP/HTTPS protocol in real time. Cache size for video - 10 sec.
  This feature primarily intended for operators of service VPN, which will significantly expand their service capabilities by providing their customers a new service that allows to play content through torrent files and magnet-links in its original quality via HTTP/HTTPS without any need to install any special software, including TS Engine. For these purposes software, based on TS Engine, is provided.
• Universal system of user authentication.
  User has to register only once and get his personal ID, so any of the operators AVoD or IPTV/InternetTV services could open access rights to their content for this ID, if this ID was specified by a person, who has a contractual relations with such operator.
• Live Streaming 720p and 1080p formats, based on BitTorrent protocol.
• Social component (system of ratings, messages and comments; recommendations; user moderation of informational materials that accompany video/audio content (look at the wiki), and others).

Use of TS Engine functions allows to get economy of up to 100% of traffic and the cost of AVoD servers, and up to 99.9% for IPTV/InternetTV or video blogs and personal user Live Stream channels, without the need to take into account topology of its own network or used networks of involved CDN operators.

All functions, features and tools of TS Engine can be easily integrated, using an API or client server module, to any web services and desktop products (applications for personal computers: VLC, TheKMPlayer, MPlayer, XBMC, GStreamer, etc.; set-top boxes: STB, Xbox, Will, Play Station, etc.; SmartTV system, etc.) without the need to change an architecture of operating Internet services and/or produced software products.

Installing and Setting up Torrent Stream Software

Full package of Torrent Stream Software contains:

TS Engine – the main software product (engine to control multimedia streams);

TS Player - desktop version of multimedia player (modified and enhanced version of VLC player);

TS P2P Multimedia Plug-in - plug-in for a browser (based on VLC Plug-in). Provides work of web players on sites;

Magic Player – additional extension for browsers Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome (extends the multimedia capabilities of many popular sites). For information: version for Oprah web browser is installed separately and is not included to the installer.

Before using Torrent Stream Software make sure that it works, using a test web player and submitted for the test torrent files. Go to test:

Options and settings

To personalize TS Engine settings and/or to activate an account in Torrent Stream System use menu "Options". To open menu "Options" move the cursor on the icon "Torrent Stream", which is available in the system tray (when running the program) and making a right click, select "Options" and click on this menu item.

TS Engine options:

«Login/Password» – entry fields for user data in Torrent Stream System. It is used for activation of additional functions.

«Cache Folder» – specifies the directory of the folder used for temporary caching of multimedia data.

«Maximum upload speed» - establishes a limit on the speed of streaming upload of multimedia data to other users.

«Maximum download speed» - establishes a limit on the speed of download of multimedia data from other users.

«Disk cache volume» – allows you to assign the maximum volume of disk space that you are willing to allocate for temporary caching of multimedia data. (If you reach the limit of the cache size, files from it will be partially deleted, freeing up the space for caching playing file).

«Automatically limit the download speed» - in automatic mode the download speed will not exceed the speed of bitrate with the additional ratio 1.3 (1.3 * bitrate).

«Start playback only with sufficient speed» - if the speed of downloading is lower than the speed of the bitrate of playing file, then the playback will start when the volume of the formed cache and the download speed will allow to play the file without interruption for buffering.

«Enable playback entertainment spots during pre-buffering» - this option will help you to spend time of pre-buffering with pleasure, starting at this period of time playback of announcement of new movies and other entertainment content. Attention! This is not advertising spots and rewind function will be available, if you want to skip them or turn off when you see that pre-buffering has been already completed. And the most important – these playbacks noways, not for one second will increase your time of pre-buffering!!! (How can that be!? Just try first, and you always will have time to distinguish!)

«Extended options»:

• «Cleaning the cache folder» - removes files downloaded by the program from the cache folder.

Settings of TS Player are implemented according to the settings of the original program, namely VLC player. For detailed information, please visit the developer site VideoLAN.

Most of the TS Player settings are synchronized with the settings of TS P2P Multimedia Plug-in. This means, for example, that if you want to enable support for hardware acceleration for web players, then you only have to set this setting in the desktop version of the player, and it also will work for web players. Attention! Settings for TS P2P Multimedia Plug-in will take effect after restarting your web browser.

Before you start using Torrent Stream software, test its work using test web player and test torrent files. Go to test:

1. The main criteria for quality and smooth playback of video and audio online via torrents:

For online playback of audio-visual content via torrents the speed of your Internet connection for the incoming traffic (download) must be higher than the total bitrate of file tracks. Optimal ratio is 1/1.3 (bitrate/download speed). You can check the speed of your connection here.

The second criteria is the speed of video/audio streaming from its source. This source includes all pool participants (peers) who provide you with the video/audio stream, and you in turn become a source of video/audio for other members of the pool.

Information about the number of peers as well as the download and upload speed is displayed when you place the cursor over the plug-in's icon in the system tray:

DL – download speed (кб/с)
UL – upload speed (кб/с)
Helping – the number of peers

Information for calculating the speed: 1000 kbit/s (kbps) = 125 KByte/s (kB/s) = 7,3 MB/min = 439.5 MB/hour

Example of calculation:
Video: 1744 kbps
Audio 1 : 128 kbps
Audio 2 : 128 kbps

Total bitrate: 2000 kbps = (1744 +128 +128) kbps = 250 KByte/sec (kB/s) = 14.6 MB/min = 879 MB/hour

Result: the value of DL, at 2000 kbps, must be higher than 250

The optimal value of DL = 250*1.3 = 325

2. Playback starts after pre-buffering

It means that minimal cache is formed before playback start. It will provide you ability of nonstop playback of streaming video/audio.

Attention! The time of pre-buffering depends only on the speed of your Internet connection and the total upload speed of all peers, not the work of Torrent Stream software!

For example, if you try to play video using the torrent file that will take one day to download with regular torrent-client, then don’t wait for a miracle from the plug-in: the pre-buffering time in such case will be very long.

A large number of peers do not guaranty fast pre-buffering.

For example, if two peers at the beginning provide you with upload speed that exceeds total video bitrate then pre-buffering will take less than one minute. On the other hand, if you are connected to 50 peers but total upload speed from those peers is less than minimal required download speed then pre-buffering will last much longer.

Attention! If pre-buffering lasts more than 1-2 minutes check the download speed (DL) to decide whether it is possible to watch the video using plug-in.

Note: Please, do not spoil your impressions from using our products and watching video online, using unsuitable for this torrents, surrounded by the pool that cannot provide necessary download speed.

3. Playback without delays if download speed is lower than bitrate of the playback file (for version 1.0.4 and above)

If the download speed is lower than the bitrate speed and you do not want the playback to be interrupted, then you have the opportunity to use the option «Start with suffcient speed only» Playback will start only when the amount of formed cache and the download speed allows to play the file without interruption for buffering.

This option is the default, but you can disable it from the menu "Options", unchecking the appropriate menu item: "start with suffcient speed only".

How everything will happen if the option is enabled?

When you run the file, after pre-buffering, if download speed of the stream (DL) is not enough for continuous playback, it will stop and you'll see in the information line of the player message and information about the time after which the playback will start without delays. After the specified time, playback starts automatically. Well, if the download speed is optimal for continuous playback of the file, it will start playing and continue without interruptions.

Information about the remaining time before the playback starts will be dynamically changed depending on the volume of filling of cache and the download speed. If you notice that somehow time instead of decreasing began to increase, just look at the download speed (DL), because it obviously began to fall. There are two reasons: 1. Peers fell off. 2. You have a problem with Internet connection.

4. Mediafiles, when you watch them online, are automatically downloaded to the directory, which was specified during the installation of Torrent Stream software or in menu «Options»

By default, the video is downloaded to directory:: C:\TorrentStream

5. Set the optimal upload speed

Concept of this plug-in supports the basic concepts of P2P and in its options the setting of determining the upload speed is provided.

Video/audio is uploaded to other peers while playing and after the playback is finished if you don’t turn off TS Engine.

Attention! Don’t be greedy and set the maximum upload speed if you have unlimited outbound traffic. The upload speed through TS plug-in doesn't affect the speed of loading video.

6. All settings and control over TS Engine, as well as its disconnection are performed through its menu, which is called by clicking the mouse on the TS icon, located in the system tray of your OS:

7. Optimize your player

If you don’t have a very powerful computer or the speed of your Internet connection is limited then don’t run more than one player simultaneously. In addition, close all unnecessary windows of the browser and programs that consume a lot of resources of your computer or Internet traffic. These recommendations become even more important if you want to watch high-quality video (e.g. 720p or 1080p)

If your computer has GPU (graphics processor/video card), then to reduce a burden on CPU (central processing unit), enable option «use video accelerator» in the desktop player settings (TS Player, which comes with Torrent Stream version 1.0.5 and higher). restart your browser after enabling support for hardware acceleration to make it work for web players. Attention! This option may not work properly with some video cards!

8. Stop content downloading

If you decided to stop downloading or watching video-content, using web player, then don't forget to stop downloading by clicking the button «Stop downloading» or simply close the page with the player.

Note: Information and recommendations will be added periodically, as far as more functions will be added to the player and more questions from you will be received. Therefore, don't forget to visit this page from time to time

By this release we want to draw attention of all to the fact that TS P2P Multimedia Plug-In is not the only and exclusive basis of Torrent Stream System, and that the basis of TS System is Torrent Stream engine (TS Engine) itself only, that can work with any desktop player (VLC; The KMPlayer; MPlayer, etc.) and media centers (XBMC; Mediaportal, etc.), as well as with web players based on any technology, including HTML5.

In version 1.0.5 many bugs are fixed and algorithms of the engine are improved, which you can clearly see when using the player.

What's new:

New implementation of http-seeding!

The main innovative feature in version 1.0.5 is http-seeding. Nowadays there are two basic implementations of this support (bep_0017; bep_0019). We decided to combine the capabilities of these add-ins and add our implementation, which is actually an innovative, allowing you to erase brink in the area of quick start and rewind response while playing online video and audio content, between media platforms, built on the basis of such technologies like flash or silverlight, and media platforms that use bittorrent protocol, based on Torrent Stream technology.

How and where can you clearly see and make comparison tests?

1. Use a torrent which has http-seed with a quality source of stream support (in which the upload speed will not be lower than the bitrate speed of the playing file), or several http-seeds, which is even better.

Several torrent files for tests: torrent1, torrent2, torrent3, torrent4 (these are files that are used in our demo player). If you want to make a comparative test and clearly see advantages of Torrent Stream over any other existing programs, just start playback of these torrent files via torrent client that you know, which have a feature of video playback without waiting for complete download. Then you can compare the rate of waiting time before the start of playback.

Attention! If the upload speed of http-seed or a total speed of all http-seeds will be lower than the bitrate speed, then the software will work in normal mode and you will not feel a significant difference in such support. This restriction will also be applied if the speed of your Internet connection will be lower than the bitrate speed, so choose for the test only the content that will be acceptable for your online channel and torrents with quality http-support.

2. To compare performance of the player based on Flash technology and Torrent Stream, select additional extension for browser: P2P You Tube. With this extension you can play all video on You Tube directly through torrents in our web player (full support of P2P, via BitTorrent protocol, is implemented).

Desktop player for playing torrents

Assembly contains desktop version of the player (TS Player), which will allow you to launch and play torrents in it, as ordinary video and audio files. Also if you know content ID you can specify it when choosing a source in an appropriate option of the player (content ID is an analogue of magnet-links). To find out ID of playing content you need to open tab «player code and links» in the player.

Attention! Desktop version of the player is also needed for using extended settings of the browser player, because most of TS Player settings are synchronized with the web player. For example, if you want to use video accelerator or reassign hot keys for the web player, you will need to go to TS Player settings, set this options and restart the page with the player or a browser (which is better), and all new settings will be applied to the web player.

Magic Player

Another easy and very convenient and functional extension for browsers Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome is included in the main assembly. With this extension you can start in one click playing video and audio content on a huge number of popular torrent trackers of the world in its original quality and without any need to download torrent files and without waiting for content download.

Complete seeding!

Now complete seeding of cached content is carried out! This means that until you delete all files, saved after the playback, they will be in the mode of seeding, thereby helping to obtain high-quality stream to other users of bittorrent networks, unless you disable TS Engine (old name is bgprocess). Now you don't have to install other torrent clients to support the seeding.

Automatic update.

Use automatic update option, so you could always have a new version of Torrent Stream software and you no longer have to waste time on reinstalling.

To enable this option you need to set it during the installation (it's enabled by default).

Updates come into force for each individual product included in the installation package after the next restart of this product: engine (tsengine), web browser, for plug-in or extension update, desktop player.

Important! Some nuances of automatic update of Magic Player extension,

in Firefox:

1) if at the moment of installation an old version of the extension is installed on your computer, then a new version will be disabled after installing (to activate it you need to go to the extension settings and enable it);

2) if at the moment of installation an old version of the extension is installed on your computer and this version is stored in a packed form (as xpi-file) and Firefox is running, then a new version will appear only after rebooting computer.

Anyway you can always disable this option or use rewind function, if a particular video-spot will be not interesting for you!

Setting a volume of disk cache and its automatic cleanup.

You don't have to worry about a possible lack of disk space due to replete cache folder, that you have allocated for Torrent Stream System.

In the case of reaching the limit of cache size, files from it will be partially erased freeing up space for those that are played. When playing content that exceeds the cache size, the file will be cached, and there should not be any problems with playing. Value "0" is unlimited.

Installing software without administrator rights

Dependencies, related to the availability of administrator rights for the computer user to install Torrent Stream software, are fixed.

From this version the program is installed in % APPDATA% \ TorrentStream (there is no a choice of the directory to install the program now).
